where to put the MySQL driver for Tomcat

Whenever you're writing java programs and want to connect with a MySQL database, you need a database driver. This driver is in fact a jar file; JAR stands for Java ARchive and is a zipped file containing all the classes you need to connect to your database and get information in and out of this database.

To download a MySQL driver, go to http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/.
Choose the version of MyConnectorJ you want and download the jar file.
This Jar file should then be placed in C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\common\lib.
If the jar file is inside the common\lib folder of Tomcat, Tomcat can use this driver for any web application defined inside the webapps folder.
