Help needed on setting up a database!
Hi guys,
Hope you can help me out with this one! I know next to nothing about programming in general and MySQL in particular, still I have to set up a MySQL database on a webpage. I was hoping one of you guys could provide me with a step by step account of the actions i need to perform in order to do so, or a link to such a guide. I have spent several hours seraching through the web but there seems to be very little information that i am able to understand and use This is what i've done so far: I've found a free host with a mysql capability and registered there (http://www.host.sk/index.php). I've downloaded MySQL, and started it. The first thing it asked me was for a password, don't know what that was about, so i didn't even have a go at it anyway i started reading and realised that i would need a GUI (or how is it called) unless i wanted to spend the next 2 months studdying mysql commands, so I downloaded a trial version of navicat. The funny thing is that I can't connect to the test server, but undiscouraged by this i tried to connect to the server which i registered for, but that didn't work either. Then i've found on the web that since i'm using a remote server i should set up an SSH tunnel, which i did (with navicat). I didn't get any specific SSH password and username so i used the ones for the MySQL database, which i got while registering on the above-mentioned website. Didn't work, i got a "bad username, password or private key" message. Now i'm clueless as to what should i do next. I really hope you guys will have the time and patience to help me out and would greatly appreciate any such effort! Counthing on you guys and thanks in advance! |

Re: Help needed on setting up a database!
I won't be able to help you all the way, unless you should have chosen the same development environment as me : MySQL, Java, Tomcat, Eclipse.
I'm developingon my PC and when everything is all right, I'll put my new database and/or code on my web server. I suggest you should do the same, so try to create your database on your PC. I do my database management on my PC, on my web server I have to work with phpMyAdmin. Let me know what is your development environment and try to connect with navicat to your local database server. If you get an error, let me know. |
