How do I connect to mysql database on another site?

Hi
I have a website with mysql and another without mysql. I want to connect using php from the one without mysql to the one that has mysql. Normal connection via localhost I am familiar with. I have tried varying ways of specifiying the host but all have failed. I know it must include the site IP or address and possibly 3306 but all fails. The usual appears to be something like myIP:3306 Do I need the address of the mysql server from my hosting company?

Yes, and you need to set up permissions so that the mysql SERVER is accepting connections from the other machine.
