Is it better to use Perl or PHP to interface with MySQL?

I can choose the programming language but I have to build an application with MySQL. Does Perl work better with MySQL or does PHP?

They both work quite well. I would use the language you are more familiar with. Personally I love php. I used to be quite proficient at Perl but after learning PHP I switched most of my efforts to it. I've found development much quicker. However, there are certain non-web tasks that I'd definitely stick with Perl for. Hope this answers your question.

Developers use PHP coz it is opensource as well as easy to understand.

Perl, is too opensource but bit tough and it is usually used by UNIX programmers and security experts/
